Information pertaining to planned activities or developments along the Highway 60 corridor near Superior.

The following are summaries of the studies that ADOT is doing on US 60 between Superior and Globe.

Project Scope
US 60 - Superior to Globe, MP 222.6 to MP 258.0, L/DCR & Environmental Studies

A design concept study to improve US 60 between Superior and Globe is just getting started. The US 60 Location/Design Concept Report (L/DCR) and Environmental Studies project will develop and evaluate alternative concepts for improvement and/or realignment of US 60 between Superior and Globe to meet the needs of the traveling public. The end product will be a concept that has broad support, environmental clearance, and an implementation plan that addresses and solves short- and long-term corridor development needs.

Project Assessment for Rock Fall Protection – MP 228.8 to 229.4

A Project Assessment (PA) and a Categorical Exclusion document for rockfall mitigation of several rockfall areas along US 60 between MP 228.8 and 229.4 in Queen Creek canyon will also be done. The scope of the PA will develop preliminary roadway plans to shift the US 60 alignment approximately 15 feet toward Queen Creek to increase the ditch width beneath the existing rock cuts, retaining wall design and perform a detailed geotechnical investigation to evaluate and make recommendations for rockfall mitigation.

Project Location

The project limits for the L/DCR study area begins at US 60 milepost (MP) 223.8, near the western limits of the Boyce Thompson Arboretum, and extends eastward approximately 35 miles to US 60 MP 258.0, northeast of the intersection of US 70 and US 60 in Globe (see Figure). The limits of the rockfall mitigation PA begins at MP 228.8, just east of the Queen Creek Tunnel, and extends to MP 229.4.
